They say not to judge a book by its cover, but when it comes to albums, the same rules don’t apply. Album artwork is just as crucial as the music found within and is supposed to draw in listeners and be a reflection of the music itself. It’s often the first impression and shares a symbiotic relationship with the music.
In my adolescence, I’d put a record on the turntable, drop the needle and then sit back on the couch, observing and admiring the 12″x12″ cover, as I listened.
