The Musiquarium’s Live God Review Score: 8 out of 10
Recorded live in Paris in 2024, Live God showcases Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds in all their glory on their spiritually-uplifting Wild God tour.
Eight out of ten of the tracks from Wild God appear here, along with ten other classics from the band’s storied forty year history, including staples, like From Her to Eternity, Tupelo, Red Right Hand and Into Your Arms. A gospel choir accompanies the band and Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood fills in for Martyn Casey on bass.
I had the good fortune of seeing the band perform these songs on this tour (though not at the Paris show) and it was incredible — you could see and feel Cave’s emotion as he played these new songs to his audience, with the gospel choir adding plenty of dimension. Cave commands the audience like a televangelist, as he preaches from the darkest depths of his soul, to its highest mountains. You could feel his vulnerability and naked soul, bare to thousands of strangers, who really aren’t strangers at all, as the music brought everyone together, if just for a those couple of hours.
While its not quite as good as actually being there, Live God still makes for a solid live album.
