Released: 2022

Genres: Alternative Rock, Power Pop

The Musiquarium’s SZNZ: Summer Review Score: 2.5/5

Released on the summer solstice, Weezer’s second instalment of their seasonal EPs focuses on summer, with a sound that Rivers Cuomo described as the “youthful indignation” that followed the end of the Roman Republic.

Lawn Chair begins with strings, before launching into their modern power pop formula. Lead single Records is pretty cheesy, but that’s expected from modern Weezer. Blue Like Jazz has some Muse like guitar riffs and vocals. Cuomoville is a rather interesting title, but that’s about all. Thank You and Good Night is definitely the best and heaviest track here, with some heavy metal guitar riffs and a memorable chorus.

SZNZ: Summer is an improvement over SZNZ: Spring, and although Weezer is likely well past their best material, it’s at least a step in the right direction.
