The Musiquarium’s Weezer (White Album) Review Score: 8 out of 10

After a minor comeback with Everything Will Be Alright in the End two years prior, Weezer (White Album) finds Weezer continuing to win back their mojo, with their most sincere and interesting album since Pinkerton, 20 years prior. Weezer (White Album) is very much Rivers Cuomo’s love letter to the state of California (nobody tell Anthony Kiedis!).

California Kids sets the summery scene of the album, with a nostalgic ode to the beloved state. Thank God for Girls is a tribute to the fairer sex. Songs like Do You Wanna Get High? and Summer Elaine and Drunk Dori are perhaps the closest that Weezer has been to capturing the spirit and sound of their early work (and are 2/3 of the Cuomo-only compositions on this album).

Weezer (White Album) is a surprisingly good album from Weezer, and while it never had a chance competing with the band’s first two albums it’s easily their best work since.
